I have stayed in many hotels over the years, many of which I have erased from my memory as they were unremarkable in their service, food or accommodation.
Whether you are talking about hotels and accommodation Australia Moscow or Bangkok, I really have stayed in the good, the bad and the absolutely terrible.
Some stand out in my mind for all the right reasons, such as impeccable service, great views, pillows to die for and the best facilities such as a great swimming pool or nightclub. Others are memorable for the quality of the massages or the gym equipment.
Then there are the ones that evoke memories – and shudders – for all the wrong reasons. There was that ground floor hotel room in Kuwait which simply had no lock on the balcony door, so I spent the nights with the sofa rammed up against it. Or that hotel in Moscow which had people knocking on the bedroom door throughout the night for some unearthly reason. Then there was a trip to the hotel hairdresser in Kiev who spoke no English and dyed my hair a shocking shade of red.
Good or bad, there have certainly been some experiences which looking back I really would not swap for the world – but I would not go back to many of them for love nor money.
